What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of taking materials that have already served a purpose and transforming them into something new, beautiful, and more valuable than before. Unlike recycling — which breaks materials down — upcycling keeps the fabric intact and gives it a completely new identity.

Think of it as a creative second chapter for materials that still have so much to offer.

How Sandiz Handmade Does It Differently

At Sandiz, we have always crafted our bags from high-quality new fabrics. But over time, I started to notice something: some of the most beautiful, most unique textiles I encountered were ones that had already lived a life, baby blankets with soft, broken in texture, decorative living room sheets with patterns you simply cannot find in a fabric store anymore.

So I made a decision. I started collecting these fabrics and turning them into handmade tote bags, cosmetic pouches, and accessories that are completely one of a kind. Every upcycled piece in our collection is made from fabric that was once something else entirely  and that history is exactly what makes it special.

Not every fabric makes the cut. We choose only the ones that inspire us and that we know will make a truly beautiful finished piece.

Because we work with limited quantities of each fabric, every collection is small by design. When a fabric runs out, that style is gone — which means every piece is genuinely exclusive.
